Motorola BackFlip Root & Upgrade

The following is the tested and approved by many users including me. It is a good news for all the users of the motorola backflip.

following guide to upgrade the Backflip to 2.3.4 Gingerbread.

1.Download the recovery, 4005cwm.bf and rename it to recovery.img and copy to your phone’s SD card.

2.Download the Custom ROM : final_test-update-cm-7.1.0-RC1-BACKFLIP-KANG-signed  And copy to your phone’s SD card.

3.Download the Gapps : gapps-gb-20110613-signed And copy to your phone’s SD card.

4.Download USB drivers for 32bit/x86  or 64bit/x64 and install.

5.Download the android sdk and extract it in your C drive in your computer.

6.Backup all your data (songs, images, videos, contacts, etc.) on phone and sd card.

Procedure:

1.First of all you should root your Backflip, if not already have.

2.Open command prompt, by typing “cmd” in run.

3.Open c drive and navigate to android-sdk_r07-windows\android-sdk-windows\tools.

4.Drag n drop the adb.exe in command prompt and in the same line type “start-server”, and hit enter. The ADB server will start. Now plug in your phone make sure its in USB Debugging mode.

5.Drag n drop adb.exe again in command prompt and type “shell” and hit enter.
type “su” enter and approve the request on phone if prompted, then type

flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img

6.Now you have custom recovery on your phone.

7.Reboot phone in recovery mode – power off phone –> press and hold camera button –> switch on phone while keeping camera button pressed.Phone will enter fast boot, immediately press volume down key(though will say up pressed) and wait until recovery loads.

8.On your recovery menu goto Wipe and select “Wipe all” this will delete all data and cache off your phone.

9.Press back button to go back to main recovery menu and select “Flash zip from SD”. You’ll see the text “SDCARD: final_test-update-cm-7.1.0-RC1-BACKFLIP-KANG-signed″. Press the home key. ROM will begin flashing.

10.After flashing the Gingerbread you will have to flash the Gapps you downloaded to get Android Market etc.

11.After completion, select “Reboot system now”. It may take upto 10-15 minutes to boot for the first time.

Now you got the new Backflip with this fast Custom  ROM 2.3.4 Gingerbread and the goodness of  CyanogenMod 7.
